Los verbos modales: “can't have" / "must have" / "might have”

(Modals: can't have/ must have / might have)


Introducción

Se pueden usar los verbos modales "must have", "can't have" y "might have" para hacer conjeturas o deducciones acerca de una acción en el pasado que creemos que ha sucedido definitivamente, o que no ha sucedido definitivamente o que creemos que posiblemente haya sucedido, según nuestro conocimiento, información o pruebas, o a falta de pruebas.

Se usa "must have", "can't have" y "might have" al igual queel presente perfecto - la acción que estamos describiendo ocurrió, o no ocurrió, en el pasado y sigue siendo cierto en el presente.

Forma

Se usa "must have", "can't have" y "might have" con el participio pasado del verbo principal:

Formas afirmativas y negativas

Se usa "must have" sólo en la forma positiva: creemos que la acción ocurrió definitivamente.

Se usa "can't have" en la forma negativa sólo: creemos que la acción definitivamente no fue así (lo contrario de "must have").

Se puede hacer una forma negativa de "might have" con "not": creemos que es posible que la acción no hubiera ocurrido así, pero también es posible que sí. "might not" puede contraerse en "mightn't".

El uso de “by now” y “yet”

Se puede usar “by now” con formas afirmativas, por ej.
Se puede usar “yet” con formas negativas, por ej.

Forma interrogativa

No se usa "must have" o "can´t have" en forma interrogativa porque se usan cuando creemos que algo es cierto. Se usa “must have” en la forma interrogativa:

Punto lingüistico extra - “might have” con “not”

"might have not"

Además de la forma más común "might not have" (descrita anteriormente), también es posible usar la forma "might have not": En la segunda frase, "not" se usa para enfatizar la negativa del verbo principal; en este caso, "might have" describe una posibilidad positiva qde ue él no envió las invitaciones.
Forma negativa interrogativa

También podemos usar "might not have" para formar preguntas. Podemos cambiar la posición de "not" para conseguir diferentes énfasis:
