Introducción

Se usan "this" / "that" / "these" / "those" como adjetivos y pronombres demostrativos para identificar algo de lo que estamos hablando.

Adjetivos demostrativos:

• I like this book.
• That book is expensive.
• She loves these books.
• I want those books.

Pronombres demostrativos:

• Whose book is this?
• That is my book.
• These are mine.
• I want these, not those.

Forma 1 – adjetivos demostrativos

Se usan "this" / "that" / "these" / "those" como adjetivos demostrativos con un sustantivo:
adjetivo demostrativo + sustantivo .

• Se usan "this" y "these" para cosas que están cerca de nosotros en relación a tiempo y lugar (“near”)
• Se usan "that" y "those" para cosas que están lejos de nosotros o que no las podemos ver (“far”)

  • This food is expensive.
• Plural / near:
  • Are these shoes yours?
• Singular / far:
  • That film is very long.
• Plural / far:
  • Those books aren’t mine.

Forma 2 – pronombres demostrativos

Se usan "this" / "that" / "these" / "those" como pronombres demostrativos:

• sin un nombre, si el nombre del que estamos hablando está claro, por ejemplo porque usted puede verlo:
  • Singular:
    • I own this.
  • Plural:
    • My sister loves these.
  • Singular:
    • Sarah doesn’t like that.
  • Plural:
    • My brother has those.
    
    
• con "be" antes del sustantivo:

  • 	Singular	Plural
    Positivo	this is ... that is ...	these are ... those are ...
    Negativo	this isn't ... that isn't ...	these aren't ... those aren't ...
    interrogativo	is this ... ? is that ... ?	are these ... ? are those ... ?

  • Singular:
    • This is a good book.
  • Plural:
    • These are pretty flowers.
  • Singular:
    • That is a good book.
  • Plural:
    • Those are pretty flowers.
  
  
• con "be" y los adjetivos posesivos y pronombres:
  • Singular:
    • This is mine.
  • Plural:
    • These aren't hers.
  • Singular:
    • Is that her bag?
  • Plural:
    • Are those your shoes?

Se pueden usar "this" / "these" para separarlos de "that" / "those" y para no tener que repetir el sustantivo:

• Singular:
  • I don't like that. I prefer this.
• Plural:
  • "Are these books yours?" "No, those are mine."
