Introduction

On utilise le plus-que-parfait continu (past perfect continuous) pour parler d'une action continue dans le passé qui a commencé et a continué jusqu'à une autre action passée.

Par exemple:

I	had been running	for six hours by the time	I arrived	at the finish line.
	ceci s'est passé en premier		ceci s'est passé plus tard

... or:

By the time	I arrived	at the finish line,	I had been running	for six hours.
	ceci s'est passé plus tard		ceci s'est passé en premier

The bus was late. I had been waiting for 30 minutes when it finally arrived.

Formation

Pour former le plus-que-parfait continu, on utilise:
"had" / "hadn't been" + la forme en "ing" du verbe principal.

Par exemple:

I You He / She / It We They	had (or: I'd / She'd / They'd, etc)	been	lying	in the sun for hours.
	hadn't (had not)
