Czasu Past Perfect Continuous używamy do opisania sytuacji ciągłej, która miała miejsce w przeszłości i była kontynuowana do późniejszego momentu w przeszłości.

Na przykład:

I	had been running	for six hours by the time	I arrived	at the finish line.

By the time	I arrived	at the finish line,	I had been running	for six hours.

The bus was late. I had been waiting for 30 minutes when it finally arrived.

Forma

Aby utworzyć zdanie w czasie Past Perfect Continuous, używamy:
had / "hadn't been" + formy "-ing" czasownika głównego.

Na przykład:
