Introduzione

Usiamo il past perfect continuous per parlare di un'azione in corso nel passato che è cominciata ed è continuata fino ad un'altra azione successiva nel passato.

Per esempio:

I	had been running	for six hours by the time	I arrived	at the finish line.
	questo è capitato prima		questo è capitato dopo

... or:

By the time	I arrived	at the finish line,	I had been running	for six hours.
	questo è capitato dopo		questo è capitato prima

The bus was late. I had been waiting for 30 minutes when it finally arrived.

Forma

Per formare il past perfect continuous usiamo:
had / "hadn't been" + forma in "ing" del verbo principale.

Per esempio:

I You He / She / It We They	had (or: I'd / She'd / They'd, etc)	been	lying	in the sun for hours.
	hadn't (had not)
