Introdução

Nós usamos o passado perfeito contínuo para falar sobre uma ação contínua no passado que começou e continuou até uma ação passada mais tarde.

Por exemplo:

I	had been running	for six hours by the time	I arrived	at the finish line.
	isso aconteceu em primeiro lugar		isso aconteceu mais tarde

... or:

By the time	I arrived	at the finish line,	I had been running	for six hours.
	isso aconteceu mais tarde		isso aconteceu em primeiro lugar

The bus was late. I had been waiting for 30 minutes when it finally arrived.

Formulário

Para produzir o tempo verbal do passado perfeito contínuo usamos:
had / "hadn't been" + formato "ing" do verbo principal.

Por exemplo:
