Wir verwenden den bestimmten Artikel für ein bestimmtes Substantiv im Singular, Substantive im Plural und nicht zählbare Substantive:

• the banana
• the orange dresses
• the time

Beispiele:

• Unbestimmte Artikel:
  • Would you like a banana?
  • I want to buy an orange dress.
  • I have a headache.
• Bestimmter Artikel:
  • The bananas are very expensive.
  • I want to buy the orange dress I saw last week.
  • The headache I had yesterday was very bad.

Wir verwenden unbestimmte Artikel für etwas seiner Art, aber nichts Besonderes:

• a small boat
• an interesting story

Wir verwenden „a" mit:

• nouns or adjectives beginning with consonants
• nouns or adjectives beginning with vowels that make consonant sounds

Wir verwenden „an" mit:

• nouns or adjectives beginning with vowels
• nouns or adjectives beginning with silent consonants that make a vowel sound
