Einführung

Wir verwenden „this" / „that" / „these" / „those" als Demonstrativadjektive und Pronomen, um das Ding oder die Dinge, über das bzw. die wir sprechen, zu identifizieren.

Demonstrativadjektive:

• I like this book.
• That book is expensive.
• She loves these books.
• I want those books.

Demonstrativpronomen

• Whose book is this?
• That is my book.
• These are mine.
• I want these, not those.

Form 1 – Ddemonstrativadjektive

Wir verwenden “this" / „that" / „these" / „those" " als Demonstrativadjektive mit einem Substantiv:
Demonstrativadjektiv + Substantiv..

• Wir verwenden „this" und „these" für Dinge, die uns in Bezug auf Ort und Zeit nah sind („nah").
• Wir verwenden „that" und „those" für Dinge, die fern von uns sind oder die wir nicht sehen können („fern").

Beispiele:

• Singular / nah:
  • This food is expensive.
• Plural / nah:
  • Are these shoes yours?
• Singular / fern:
  • That film is very long.
• Plural / fern:
  • Those books aren’t mine.

Wir verwenden „this" /„that" / „these" / „those" als Demonstrativpronomen:

• ohne Substantiv, wenn das Substantiv, von dem wir sprechen, klar ist, z.B. weil man es sehen kann:
  • Singular:
    • I own this.
  • Plural:
    • My sister loves these.
  • Singular:
    • Sarah doesn’t like that.
  • Plural:
    • My brother has those.
    
    
• mit „be" vor dem Substantiv:

  • 	Singular	Plural
    positiv	this is ... that is ...	these are ... those are ...
    negativ	this isn't ... that isn't ...	these aren't ... those aren't ...
    Frage	is this ... ? is that ... ?	are these ... ? are those ... ?

  • Singular:
    • This is a good book.
  • Plural:
    • These are pretty flowers.
  • Singular:
    • That is a good book.
  • Plural:
    • Those are pretty flowers.
  
  
• Mit „be“ vor Possessivadjektiven und -pronomen:
  • Singular:
    • This is mine.
  • Plural:
    • These aren't hers.
  • Singular:
    • Is that her bag?
  • Plural:
    • Are those your shoes?

Wir können „this" / „these" verwenden, um von „that" / „those" zu unterscheiden und die Wiederholung des Substantivs zu vermeiden:

• Singular:
  • I don't like that. I prefer this.
• Plural:
  • "Are these books yours?" "No, those are mine."
