Introdução

Nós usamos "this" / "that" / "these" / "those" como adjetivos demonstrativos e pronomes para identificar a coisa ou coisas que falamos.

Adjetivos demonstrativos:

• I like this book.
• That book is expensive.
• She loves these books.
• I want those books.

Pronomes demonstrativos:

• Whose book is this?
• That is my book.
• These are mine.
• I want these, not those.

Forma 1 – Adjetivos demonstrativos:

Nós usamos "this" / "that" / "these" / "those" como adjetivos demonstrativos com um substantivo:
adjetivo demonstrativo + substantivo.

• Nós usamos "this" e "these" para coisas que estão perto de nós em lugar e tempo ("próximo").
• Nós usamos "that" e "those" para coisas que estão longe de nós ou que não podemos ver ("agora").

Forma 2 – Pronomes demonstrativos

Nós usamos "this" / "that" / "these" / "those" como pronomes demonstrativos:

• sem um substantivo, se o substantivo do qual estamos falando for claro, por exemplo, porque você pode vê-lo:
  • Singular:
    • I own this.
  • Plural:
    • My sister loves these.
  • Singular:
    • Sarah doesn’t like that.
  • Plural:
    • My brother has those.
    
    
• com "be" antes do substantivo:

  • Singular:

Podemos usar "this" / "these" para separar de "that" / "those" e para evitar a repetição do substantivo:

• Singular:
  • I don't like that. I prefer this.
• Plural:
