Sequence adverbs

Folosim adverbele de timp "first", "next", "then" și "finally" pentru a descrie ordinea în care se întâmplă două sau mai multe acțiuni.

Exemplu:

Prepararea unei omlete
"First, I break the eggs. Then, I heat the butter in a pan. Next, I add the eggs. Finally, I eat the omelette with toast."

Folosim virgula după "first", "next", "then" și "finally" atunci când acestea introduc propoziția care descrie acțiunea.

"first": pentru o acțiune care are loc înaintea altora. Putem folosi "first" și la finalul propoziției.
- "I have a lot of work to do. First, I will make a cup of tea."
- "I will make a cup of tea first."
"next" și "then" pot fi utilizate ambele pentru o acțiune care are loc ulterior alteia, dar de obicei folosim:
- "next": pentru o acțiune care are loc imediat după o o alta, sau cât de curând posibil. Putem folosi "next" și la finalul propoziției.
  - "I went to Bolivia on holiday. "Next", I want to go to Brazil."
  - "I’m eating breakfast now. I will clean the kitchen "next"."
- "then": pentru o acțiune care are loc după o alta, dar nu imediat. Putem folosi "and then" fără virgulă.
  - "Sarah is doing her degree. Then, she wants to be a lawyer."
    Sarah will probably not be a lawyer immediately after she gets her degree.
  - "They went shopping in the morning and then they went to the zoo."
    We don’t know if they went to the zoo immediately after they went shopping.
"finally": pentru o acțiune care are loc la final, ulterior tuturor celorlalte acțiuni sau după mult timp. Putem folosi "finally" înaintea verbului, fără virgulă.
- "I worked all evening. Finally, I went to bed at 11pm."
- "I worked all evening and I finally went to bed at 11pm."
- "After five years, I finally sold the house."
