Introducere

Folosim "there is" / "there are" alături de cuantificatori pentru a descrie o cantitate de substantive fără a utiliza numere.

Exemple

there is:
• There is some milk.
• Is there enough coffee?
• There isn’t any money.
there are:
• There are some chairs.
• Are there many people?
• There aren’t enough eggs.

Cum se formează - "there is" / "there are" + substantive

Substantive

Există două feluri de substantive: numărabile și nenumărabile.

• substantivul numărabil: Un substantiv care poate fi cuantificat folosind numere. Doar substantivele numărabile au formă de plural (mai mult sau mai puțin de unu):
  • "one chair" (singular)
  • "zero eggs" (plural)
  • "hundreds of people" (plural)
  
  
• substantivul nenumărabil: Un substantiv care nu poate fi cuantificat folosind numere. Le considerăm substantive la singular fără "a" / "an":
  • "water"
  • "time"
  • "money"

Folosim "there is" alături de un substantiv numărabil la singular și de toate substantivele nenumărabile.

Folosim "there are" alături de substantivele numărabile la plural.

Exemple

• there is
  • positive:
    • "There is an egg."
  • negative:
    • "There isn’t (is not) time."
  • question:
    • "Is there milk?"
• there are
  • positive:
    • "There are zero eggs."
  • negative:
    • "There aren’t (are not) hundreds of people."

Cum se formează - "there is" / "there are" + cuantificator + substantiv

Folosim "there is" / "there are" + cuantificatori pentru a descrie cantități generale de substantive numărabile sau nenumărabile (fără a folosi numere).

Nu toți cuantificatorii pot fi folosiți atât pentru substantivele numărabile cât și pentru substantivele nenumărabile.
