Fraza condițională de tip 3

Introducere

Folosim fraza condiționala de tipul 3 pentru a descrie situații ireale din trecut și rezultatele lor imaginare. Atât situația cât și rezultatul există în trecut; situația nu a avut loc, deci rezultatul este imposibil:

If I had woken up earlier, I wouldn’t have missed the train.

"If I had woken up earlier" (dacă m-aș fi trezit mai devreme) este situația ireală.
"I wouldn’t have missed the train" (nu aș fi pierdut trenul) reprezintă rezultatul imaginar.

Situația reală și rezultatul său: "I didn’t wake up earlier so I missed the train" - Nu m-am trezit mai devreme așa că am pierdut trenul.

Exemple:

If she hadn't got the job, she would have been very disappointed.
Situația reală și rezultatul său: "she got the job so she wasn’t disappointed" – a primit jobul așa că nu a fost dezamăgită
If they had known about the problems with the trains, they would have driven.
Situația reală și rezultatul său: "they didn’t know about the problems with the trains so they didn’t drive" – nu au știut că există probleme cu trenurile așa că nu au luat mașina.
Would I have got sick if I hadn’t eaten the fish?
Situația reală și rezultatul său: "I ate the fish. Was that why I got sick?" – Am mâncat peștele. Oare de aceea m-am îmbolnăvit?

Cum se formează

Fraza condițională de tipul 3 este formată dintr-o propoziție condițională și o propoziție principală:

Propoziția condițională: "if" + mai mult ca perfectul (past perfect)
Propoziția principală: "would have" + participiul trecut (past participle)

Ordinea propozițiilor nu contează: înțelesul este același.

Dacă plasăm propoziția condițională înaintea propoziției principale, folosim vírgula pentru a separa propozițiile:

If I’d woken up earlier,	I wouldn’t have missed the train.
If she hadn’t got the job,	she would have been very disappointed.
If they had known about the problems with the trains,	they would have driven instead.
If I hadn’t eaten the fish,	would I have got sick?

Nu folosim virgula dacă plasăm propoziția principală înaintea celei condiționale:

Putem contracta pronumele personale și "would" în: "I’d" / "you’d" / "we’d" / "they’d" / "she’d" / "he’d" / "it’d"
Putem contracta "would" și "have": would’ve
Putem folosi mai mult ca perfectul continuu (past perfect continous) în propoziția condițională:
If I’d been looking more carefully, I would have noticed the mistake.
Nu am observant greșeala pentru că nu am căutat cu suficientă atenție.

Utilizarea "could" și "might"

Putem folosi "could" sau "might" în loc de "would" în propoziția principală a frazei condiționale de tipul 3.

If they had known about the problems with the trains, they would have driven.
Propoziția principală care conține "would" descrie un rezultat cert.
If they had known about the problems with the trains, they could have driven.
Propoziția principală care conține "could" descrie un rezultat posibil ca o abilitate de a realiza ceva.
If they had known about the problems with the trains, they might have driven.
Propoziția principală care conține "might" descrie un rezultat posibil.
