Trecutul continuu

Introducere

Trecutul continuu este folosit pentru a descrie o acțiune continuă din trecut (acțiunea începe și se termină în trecut).

Acțiunea poate fi întreruptă de o acțiune mai scurtă (trecutul simplu) sau de un moment specific, de exemplu:

I	was preparing	dinner when he	arrived.
	past continuous		past simple

At 8am	yesterday I	was working.
specific time		past continuous

Se pot descrie și două acțiuni continue care au loc în același timp, de exemplu:

While he	was watching	television, his sisters	were doing	their homework.
	past continuous		past continuous

Partea I - Forma afirmativă a trecutului continuu

Trecutul simplu conține
forma la trecut a verbului "to be" ("was", "were")
+ verbul principal cu terminația "ing’" (participiul prezent)

De exemplu:

I He / She / It	was	playing	football.
You We They	were

I He / She / It	was	watching	television.
You We They	were

I He / She / It	was	reading	a book.
You We They	were

Pentru a crea o propoziție la forma negativă, folosim "wasn't" ("was not") / "weren't" ("were not").

De exemplu:

I He / She / It	wasn't	watching	television.
You We They	weren't

I He / She / It	wasn't	reading	a book.
You We They	weren't
