Introducere

Folosim "used to" și "would" pentru a descrie obiceiuri sau situații adevărate din trecut, care nu se mai aplică sau nu mai sunt adevărate în prezent.

• Putem folosi "used to" sau "would" pentru a descrie acțiuni repetate din trecut
• Folosim doar "used to" pentru situații adevărate din trecut.

Exemple:

"used to" sau "would"

• I used to get up at 6am to go to school.
• I would get up at 6am to go to school.

• I used to live in France. not I would live in France.
• I used to have a pet rabbit. not I would have a pet rabbit.
  Acestea sunt situații adevărate din trecut.

Comparați frazele următoare:

• I used to / would go camping when I was young.
  "go" descrie o acțiune repetată.
   
• I used to love camping when I was young.
  "love" descrie un adevăr.

Forma nr. 1 - used to

Folosim "used to" alături de infinitivul verbului principal (fără "to"). În formele negativă și interogativă, se folosește "did" alături de "use to" (iar nu "used to"):

Putem folosi "always" alături de forma afirmativă, negativă sau interogativă a "used to" și "would". Se folosește "never" cu forma afirmativă a "used to", și "would" și "ever" cu forma negativă sau interogativă:

Rețineți că, uneori, veți auzi forma inversată a "never" / "always" și "used to" în engleza vorbită, ca în exemplul: "I used to always like chocolate."

Cu toate acestea, pentru exemplele și exercițiile din această foaie de lucru, am folosit ordinea standard a cuvintelor, după cum am explicat anterior (de exemplu: "I always used to like chocolate.").
