Introducere

Fraza condițională de tipul 1 se referă la o condiție posibilă în viitor – o acțiune care va avea sau nu loc în viitor, in funcție de îndeplinirea unor condiții date.

Exemple

"If they win the match,	I will buy them dinner."
Realizarea primei acțiuni ...	... o face posibilă pe cea de-a doua.
Dacă prima acțiune nu se realizează...	... cea de-a doua acțiune nu va avea loc.

"If you study hard,

you will pass the exam."

"If she sings well,

she will win the competition."

Form

O frază condițională de tipul 1 conține două propoziții: propoziția subordonată condițională ("if" clause) și propoziția principală.

Pentru a crea propoziția condițională ("if" clause), folosim:
"if" + timpul prezent.

Pentru a formula propoziția principală, folosim:
timpul viitor.

Propoziția subordonată condițională ("if" clause) poate fi poziționată la început sau la final, păstrându-și sensul în ambele situații.

• If they are late, we will leave without them.
• We will leave without them if they are late.

Când propoziția condițională ("if" clause) este poziționată la începutul frazei, virgula este necesară între cele două propoziții.

Putem folosi "when" în loc de "if":

• "if" implică o posibilitate
• "when" implică o certitudine.

De exemplu:

• If I get home late, we won’t have dinner.
• When I get home, we’ll have dinner.

Putem folosi "unless" în loc de "if".

"Unless" înseamnă "except if" sau "if + not".

• "You won't be promoted unless you complete the project on time."
• "Unless you pay the fine, the police will take your car."

Următoarele două fraze au același înțeles:

• "If you don't read the book, you can't review it."
• "Unless you read the book, you can't review it."
