Wstep

Trzeciego okresu warunkowego uzywamy do opisania sytuacji hipotetycznych z przeszlosci oraz ich przypuszczalnych wyników. Zarówno o sytuacji jak i jej rezultacie mówimy w czasie przeszlym; sytuacja nie miala miejsca, dlatego jej wynik jest jedynie hipotetyczny:

    If I had woken up earlier, I wouldn’t have missed the train.     

• "Jesliobudzilbym sie wczesniej" to sytuacja, która nie miala miejsca.
• "nie spóznilbym sie na pociag" to hipotetyczny wynik niezaistnialej sytuacji.

    Rzeczywista sytuacja i jej wynik: Nie wstalem wczesnie, wiec spóznilem sie na pociag.

Przyklady:

• If she hadn't got the job, she would have been very disappointed.
  Rzeczywista sytuacja i jej wynik: Dostala te prace, wiec nie byla zawiedziona.
   
• If they had known about the problems with the trains, they would have driven.
  Rzeczywista sytuacja i jej wynik: Nie wiedzieli o problemach z pociagami, wiec nie pojechali.
   
• Would I have got sick if I hadn’t eaten the fish?
  Rzeczywista sytuacja i jej wynik: Zjadlem rybe. Czy dlatego zachorowalem?

Forma

Trzeci okres warunkowy tworzymy przy uzyciu zdania warunkowego i zdania glównego:

• Zdanie warunkowe: "if" + Past Perfect
• Zdanie glówne: "would have" + forma past participle

Kolejnosc zdan nie jest wazna: w obu przypadkach znaczenie calego zdania pozostanie takie samo.

Jesli zdanie warunkowe umiescimy przed zdaniem glównym, musimy uzyc przecinka:

"If" + Past Perfect + przecinek	"would have" + forma past participle
If I’d woken up earlier,	I wouldn’t have missed the train.
If she hadn’t got the job,	she would have been very disappointed.
If they had known about the problems with the trains,	they would have driven instead.
If I hadn’t eaten the fish,	would I have got sick?

Nie użyjemy przecinka jeśli zdanie główne umieścimy przed zdaniem warunkowym:

• Zaimki w formie podmiotu możemy połączyć z "would": "I’d" / "you’d" / "we’d" / "they’d" / "she’d" / "he’d" / "it’d"
   
• Mozemy polaczyc "would" i "have", otrzymamy wtedy: would’ve
   
• Czasu Past Perfect Continuous mozemy uzyc w zdaniu warunkowym:
  If I’d been looking more carefully, I would have noticed the mistake.
  Nie zauwazylem bledu, poniewaz nie patrzylem wystarczajaco uwaznie.

Przy tworzeniu trzeciego okresu warunkowego zamiast "would" w zdaniu glównym mozemy uzyc takze "could" lub "might".

  Zdanie glówne z "would" opisuje dany rezultat.
   
• If they had known about the problems with the trains, they could have driven.
  Zdanie glówne z "could" opisuje prawdopodobny rezultat jako mozliwosc wykonania jakiejs czynnosci.

  Zdanie glówne z "might" opisuje prawdopodobny rezultat.
